We are looking for a talented individual to join our team in the role of a Linux Systems Engineering Lead who will focus on improving the efficiency of our infrastructure and the availability of our applications. This candidate must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with experience managing enterprise-class applications and infrastructure. Strong experience with open source technologies is required. This individual will have direct managerial responsibilities and act as a mentor for other members of the IT Operations team.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and mentorship for operations team consisting of DBA and Systems Administrator resources
- Develop and oversee implementation of strategic plan identify team projects and priorities
- Maintain site servers and hosted web applications, ensuring uptime and site responsiveness
- Provide ongoing management & support for infrastructure
- Collaborate with DevOps team to roll out and automate configuration & release of builds to Production
- Develop tools and scripts to assist with routine maintenance tasks
- Manage Linux and related open source systems (Apache, Nginx, bind, postfix, Redis, MySQL, etc.)
- Design and provide guidance on building highly available and redundant infrastructure for systems delivering 99.99% availability
- Assists in maintaining system & infrastructure documentation
- Maintain high volume messaging infrastructure including email and SMS/text messaging
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of recent experience
- 5+ years of experience working with various Linux distributions (Red Hat/CentOS preferred)
- 4+ years of operational experience with public cloud providers (AWS Preferred)
- 3+ years of experience with server virtualization technologies (i.e. VMWare)
- 2+ years experience managing Windows server environments
- 2+ years experience acting as lead managing people
- Proficient in scripting technologies (Bash, Python preferred)
- Proficiency with automation tools (examples: Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, etc. experience with all not required)
- Knowledge of application protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP, etc.)
- Strong understanding of SQL and database systems (MySQL preferred)
- Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills including experience with related tools
- Thorough understanding of web applications, including deployment, management, and troubleshooting
- Proactive self-starter with the ability to drive projects through to completion
Desired Skills
- Experience working with and managing DevOps tools (e.g. Jenkins, Bitbucket/git, Bamboo, Octopus, etc.)
- Experience with various monitoring packages (e.g. New Relic, Zabbix, Nagios, etc.)
- Understanding of email deliverability and related technologies (e.g. sender authentication, SPF, dkim, etc.)
- Working understanding of web APIs
- Experience working with Docker and application containerization
- Familiarity and operational knowledge of open source systems in a mixed Windows/Linux environment
- Experience with local and wide area networks, including the Internet, MPLS, and IPSec links.
- Experience managing network infrastructure, including switches, routers, & firewalls
- Understanding Cold Fusion and Java systems helpful
