About Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO)
Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) is a public sector enterprise of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, established by the provisions of the 1986 Electric Power Industry Reform Act to provide uninterrupted and reliable power supply to the people of KPK.
PEDO was create under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization Act, 2008 approved by Provincial Assembly on July 22, 2008. The Authority has been performing its functions under the Delegation of Powers Rules 2001 framed by the Government.
The most important source of electricity is hydropower, with thermal and wind power stations as backups. In addition to hydropower plants, PEDO is also setting up three gas-fired combined cycle plants in Chitral, Mansehra, and DI Khan with a total capacity of 540 MW. These plants will be done in March 2013 and to meet the country’s rising need for energy, KPK has three other projects under construction.
